Mindfulness at a Beauty Salon – Phan Quỳnh Trâm

The young beauty therapist chatted to me
while rolling hundreds of needles on my face:
“I always tell my clients
if you concentrate on breathing
you will forget what you are going through”
there was such kindness and gentleness in her voice
that for a brief moment I thought I were in a meditation class
I smiled: “that’s true”
I could have told her
“this physical pain is my breath
to forget what I am really going through”
but my mind was occupied with
the thoughts of this new poem
little did she know
that she had given me
a rare glimpse of happiness
